Chip or Dale?

This isn't the update that I had been preparing after being away for so long, but this is just too gruesome not to share. I know what you're thinking - "I don't want to hear about something gruesome." Well, neither did I, but I somehow got thrust into the situation with little warning. So I'm bringing you down with me. So sorry!

This afternoon, as I was sitting at my kitchen table having a small after work snack, the Monkey was outside playing in this beautiful weather. I had the back door slightly open, so he could come in and see that I was still there, and then trot right back outside.

After doing this a few times, and running through the woods in search of all the little critters, he suddenly stood quietly on the back porch. Right in my line of sight.

Then he started s-l-o-w-l-y tip toeing (yes, he tip-toes) across the porch. He crouched down like a little lion and continued tip-toeing across the deck (think baby Simba in the Lion King, when he's trying to pounce ZaZou). I didn't think anything of it, because he frequently tip toes around outside when he smells something out of sorts.

So there I am, enjoying my snack, trying to think of all of the things I need to do this weekend, and all of the sudden there is this HUGE commotion. Suddenly I heard Lilly, the YorkiPoo next door freaking out. Then there were what sounded like 8 scurrying paws hurriedly racing across the back porch.

"OH MY GOSH," I thought. I jumped up to peer out the door. Terrified that I was going to see cute little Lilly in my Monkey's mouth. My mind went a million miles a minute. "How was I going to explain this to the neighbors?" "Will they take their treadmill back? We really love that thing" "Oh gosh, Little Hannah, Lilly's 7 year old owner...how will I explain to her?" I was fearing the worst.

Fortunately, Lilly was just cheering on the Monkey. Trying to help from a distance I guess. Help with what, you ask?

This....

It's gruesome, I know. I'm sorry. I hope you weren't eating.

This is what greeted me when I walked out the door. Except the first thing I saw was this little guy trying to get out of Monkey's mouth. He was not successful.

After snapping a few photos - I couldn't not share this delite with you! - and poking him with a broom a few times to make sure he was really dead, I managed to scoop the little guy up into a trash bag and tied it up good. After throwing it away, (in the big outside trash can) I proceeded to wash my hands in scalding hot water - I'm surprised I don't have 2nd degree burns it was so hot. I washed them like 5 times, singing the alphabet and the Auburn fight song over and over to make sure I got all the germs off.

Monkey has been banished to the outdoors for a while - he's not happy - and I think I'll go shower now. Where is my sweet husband, to take care of this? At class. So that is why I had to handle it. I couldn't just leave that little guy to rot on the back porch. I didn't need more critters joining us for dinner.

I hope your Friday night was better than mine!!

More updates to come...I promise!!! And hopefully they won't be as gruesome. But no promises!

We've Created a Monster

As you know, we've taught our dog to run on our treadmill. It's really been quite a life saver in this cold weather. Well it's not really that cold, but by the time we get home at night, it's too dark to take him on a run through the neighborhood, and I don't do mornings. So the only other option is the treadmill.

It's great. All we have to do is run downstairs, tell him to go left (instead of right to the cars), open a few doors, and BAM! Before you know it he's standing on the treadmill waiting for you to turn it on. If we could just figure out how to rig a button for him to step on to turn it on, we'd be in business!

Last night was no exception. I got home from work, and decided that I needed a good run, so I got dressed, and headed downstairs. Little did I know, Tas was hot on my heels. He jumped on the treadmill before I could even turn the light on.

So, in true "you first, me second" fashion, I let him go first. I had him running on a 4 speed for a good solid 20 minutes. A 4 speed is pretty fast for his little legs. By the time he finished, the news was over and Wheel of Fortune had come on. I love the Wheel. I'm such a Wheel Watcher!

Anywho. Tas was finished running (or at least according to me he was) and it was my turn. Owen was on the bike (in the garage) and so I opened all of the doors so Tas could just run about between the two of us. I hopped on the treadmill, and turned it back on.

Tas heard the beep of the power button, and came barrelling into the den. By that time I had already set my speed (to a measly 4.5) and started trotting. I noticed he was beside me, trying to decide how to jump on with me, so I promptly and sternly said "WHOA" - which is his "stop or you're gonna get it" command.

He will stop on a dime if you tell him "whoa." So I thought I was good. He's standing there staring at me, waiting for his command that he can move again, and I'm jogging along.

And then it happened. The television was turned up loud so I could hear Pat Sajack in all his Wheel of Fortune glory over the treadmill. The guy in the money suit was done dancing around, and Vanna had been introduced in her pretty dress. And Pat said the magic word....

"OK..." (..."let's get started"). "OK" is Tas' command that he can move again. And it doesn't matter who says it. Once he hears it, he's off to his original quest. Which this time happened to be running on the treadmill. With me.

We almost ended up in the emergency room. Here I am, jogging along at a 4.5 speed, quite clunkily I might add in my too big for running shoes. And Tas decides to join me. Our treadmill is not big enough for two.

I quickly grab the handrails and jump over him to the ground. Undoubtedly saving myself and him from certain disaster.

And off he runs, happy as a clam, with me sitting on the couch watching The Wheel.

Vizsla Brood

And for your viewing pleasure, here's what happens in our house when the Vizsla brood comes over to play and it's treat time.
Riveting, isn't it! That's Tas, Rezi and their son, Gabby, trying to sit pretty for a treat.

On a side note - my wonderful husband just brought me home a Triple Chocolate Dream Milk Quake from Krystal's. Yes, I said Krystal's. He's a huge fan. I'm not, but that's what I get for not cooking dinner. I am, however, a huge fan of anything with the word chocolate. And I must say it's pretty yummy. Thank you, and I'll have another!

Totally just negated the hour of working out I did tonight. Oh well...there's always tomorrow.
